The National Development Council’s Youth Council debated internships for young people entering the labor market on November 25, 2021.
The meeting, held at the Belvedere, was chaired by Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland and at the same time Head of the Youth Council Lukasz Rzepecki. In addition to members of the Council – also present were Bogna Janke – Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, as well as Blazej Spychalski and Marcin Drewa – Advisors to the President of the Republic of Poland.

After the start of the session, a speech was heard from Piotr Drzewiecki, an expert on public participation at the Institute for the Development of Legal Education and Civil Society, who presented the issue of internships and apprenticeships for young people entering the labor market. The speaker presented the current situation, as well as discussed possible and expected directions of change. He also presented the negative phenomenon of reverse payment, sometimes occurring in the labor market, when a student has to pay for an internship opportunity.

In the individual speeches of the Council members, special attention was paid to new solutions for internships, including the development of good practices, as well as possible changes in legislation that would improve conditions in the field under discussion. Also emphasized were the benefits of properly organized and properly conducted internships for both their young participants and employers.

The Council also discussed the President of the Republic of Poland’s “For the Common Good” award, which promotes civic attitudes, actions and projects. The award honors particularly committed individuals, non-governmental organizations and valuable social projects that build the civic community. Representatives of the Council attended this year’s award gala. Minister Janke encouraged Council members to formulate their ideas and suggestions for the future implementation of the project.
The discussion also summarized the concluded COP 26 climate summit in Glasgow, in which Council members actively participated: Chairwoman of the Youth Climate Council Sylwia Lyskawka and Chairwoman of the Polish Council of Youth Organizations Alina Prochasek. In addition, the first meeting of the Team for environmental education, including climate education and promotion of ecological living conditions, appointed by the Minister of Climate and Environment, was discussed, which was attended last week by Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland Lukasz Rzepecki.
